From the Principal…
It’s hard to believe, but the 82nd school year at Shrine Catholic Grade School is well underway! We are so blessed to have the opportunity to continue instilling faith and educating “our kids” from preschool through grade 6.
Much has changed over the past 80 years. Today, teaching students to think critically, problem solve and collaborate is paramount. We’ve varied the methodology in teaching to engage the students to make connections to prior experience and real life. Technology has impacted not only what the students need to learn, but also how the teacher teaches. Interactive SmartBoards in each classroom, coupled with iPads, assist the teachers in accommodating different learning styles. Our extra curricular offerings have expanded and include S.T.E.M. Explorers (science, technology, engineering and math), one of our most popular after school activities.
Do we still teach phonics? Yes, it is a key to learning how to read. Do we still teach parts of speech and diagram sentences? Absolutely. Math facts still have to be memorized and cursive handwriting is still part of the curriculum. Weekly mass, prayer services, and daily prayer guide us to exemplify Christ in all we do and who we are.
Tradition meets Tomorrow at Shrine. The door is always open. Come see all that is going on Today.
