Shrine Knight Girls Basketball

Head Coach Wayne Gigante, along with Assistant Coach Ashley Alles, is entering his fifth season as head coach of the girls basketball team.  The Shrine Girls basketball team is a team on the rise.  When coach Gigante took over the program, he inherited a team that had only won 2 games the previous season and barely fielded enough players for Varsity and JV.  Within three years, the team won a district championship and made it to the regional final, losing to the eventual state champion runner-up, Flint Hamady.  Last year, with only one senior on the team, the Knights made it back to the district final, losing a closely fought game to the eventual champion, Lutheran Northwest.  This year, the team returns four seniors and an experienced underclass.  The Knights look for a return to the district championship and beyond.

Basketball at Shrine is a serious commitment, with players practicing six days a week during the season. The Knights play 20 regular season games, and compete in the Catholic League Inter-Sectional II Division. All student-athletes at Shrine must maintain a GPA of 2.0, or better, play with the highest level of sportsmanship and remember they are representing Shrine on and off the field.
