Shrine Catholic Hires New Varsity Track Coach

(ROYAL OAK) –– Shrine Catholic High School announced today the hiring of Tracy Dawson as the Head Varsity Track Coach.

Coach Dawson is no stranger to Shrine.  He was an assistant coach under Wright Wilson for eight years (2008-2016).  Dawson’s coaching background consists of being the Head Coach at Oak Park High School from 2002-2007 and an Assistant Coach at Oak Park High School from 1995-2001.  He was also the Head Coach at Roosevelt Middle School from 1993-1994, hurdle coach at Birmingham Groves High School in 1992 and Head Coach at New Dorp High School, New York from 1990-1991.

Dawson is the Founder and President of South Oakland Sprinters Track Club.  He has competed at the high school level while attending Oak Park High School.  He competed while in the Navy and also at Hampton University.

“We are thrilled to have Tracy take this position,” said Athletic Director John Goddard. “He brings an incredible amount of knowledge and experience to our program. It is always a blessing to have such a dedicated coach show interest in our program.”

The track season starts March 13th. Shrine is looking forward to regain the Catholic High School League title it won in 2015. The team competes in the Catholic High School League, as part of the Michigan High School Athletic Association.
