Shrine Catholic High School names Dr. Julie Kaminski as the eighth principal in the school’s 81-year history. She takes over for Mr. James Mio ’96 who will focus his service at Shrine as principal of the Academy. Shrine is a co-ed educational community that begins with 3-year-old preschool and continues through high-school, between two campuses in Royal Oak.
“I am excited to be the new Principal at Shrine Catholic High School and look forward to joining a very strong leadership team already in place,” said Dr. Kaminski. “The students and staff I have met so far have been wonderful and I am thrilled to be joining such a dynamic, faith-based school community. I believe that a Catholic education should be centered on students growing in their Catholic faith, achieving academic excellence, and becoming people of strong moral character. Through rigorous academic experiences in a school setting grounded in Catholic values, students can become stewards of our faith as future leaders and difference-makers in the greater community.”
Dr. Kaminski currently serves as the principal of Kenbrook Elementary School in the Farmington School District. She holds an undergraduate degree in political science and a graduate degree in public administration, both from University of Michigan– Dearborn. She returned to Oakland University to earn an Education Specialist degree in School Administration as well as a Doctorate of Education from Eastern Michigan University. During her dissertation research, Dr. Kaminski studied teacher efficacy and how it relates to principals’ leadership style. Additionally, Dr. Kaminski has over 21 years of hands-on high school leadership experience at outstanding districts across metro Detroit, including Plymouth and Farmington.
“Dr. Kaminski joins us with a most impressive background in the educational landscape of metro Detroit. Under her leadership, her school teams and students have thrived and achieved the rigorous goals that she has set for them,” said Mrs. Joanne Jones, Head of Schools. “She brings with her a data driven curiosity and passion for a school culture based on positive relationships. Julie will be a great addition to our school leadership as we continue with our recent growth in facilities and enrollment.”
Dr. Julie Kaminski will begin her tenure August 1st.
