The Shrine Catholic Schools DECA team won an impressive 56 medals and secured 31 state qualifying spots, the most in Shrine DECA history, at the District Conference at Eastern Michigan University Jan. 9, 2025.
DECA is a national business club that prepares emerging leaders for careers in marketing, finance, management and more.
Shrine DECA moderator and High School Principal Sarah Cerone said it's impossible to overstate how proud they are of the students. "Each and every one of them truly impressed us with their maturity, effort, and professionalism."
She said DECA competitions are challenging and can feel overwhelming, but the students faced those challenges head-on and exceeded expectations.
Shrine achieved its highest number of district competitors, with 58 participants; 35 of those students — nine individuals and 12 teams — brought home an impressive 56 medals and secured 31 state qualifying spots.
"DECA Conferences allow our students to take risks and stretch themselves in ways that are not possible in the classroom," Cerone said.
"The skills they develop in the role-plays and interviews are some of the most important skills they need for future success. Today's event, along with the preparations leading up to it, will make things like job interviews, presentations, and even tough conversations easier in the future."
