Weekly Grade School Announcements

Mission Statement:  At Shrine Catholic Grade School we exemplify Christ by praying, learning, and growing together.
  • Friday, October 27, is a half day (end of the 1st Quarter) with a 12:00 noon dismissal. Latchkey is available from noon-6:00 p.m.
  • We have noticed that several students are crossing Linwood at 12 Mile. Students, whether they are walking or riding their bikes, should be going down Linwood on the residential side to the crosswalk where Mr. Joe is stationed.  Joe will then safely cross the students.
  • We are participating in helping the seminarians of Sacred Heart Major Seminary in providing a safe trick or treating for Detroit kids. We are asking our students to bring in a bag of wrapped candy on Wednesday, October 25th, for the seminarians to hand out on Halloween.  All students that bring in a bag of candy will be allowed to be out of uniform that day.  Last year, the seminarians had over 2000 kids come to visit with treat bags in hand so we would appreciate any help.  The seminarians will be picking up the candy in time for Halloween!  PLEASE NOTE:  THERE IS NO MONEY DUE FOR THIS JEANS DAY – JUST A BAG OF CANDY!  This is not part of the prepaid jeans days.
  • Picture Retake Day is this Thursday, October 26, from 8:30-10:30 AM in the Early Childhood Center. Picture packages, which were given out last week to the students, must be returned in order to get a retake. Students who are getting their pictures retaken, or who were absent on the original picture day, may be out of uniform.
  • During Religious Formation classes on Monday evening, the grade school building will be closed to Grade School families. This includes latchkey students and parents picking up from latchkey.   Please remind your child(ren) to make sure they have all of their books and homework assignments before leaving school at the end of the day.
  • This is the last weekend for the Dads’ Club pumpkin sale. Friday after school and Sunday from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon.    All the proceeds from the pumpkin sale are used to run the Dads’ Club Spirit Day for our younger students!  Also, if there is a dad from the younger grades interested in taking over the pumpkin sale next year, please contact Norm Brook at normandbrook@gmail.com.
  • Celebrate the richness of our parish community and learn about Dia de los Muertos, also called “Day of the Dead”, a festival primarily celebrated in Mexico during All Saints and All Souls Day.  The family event will be held onSunday, October 29, at 2:00 in the grade school gym.   Note that this event may be cancelled due to low registrations so please register by the deadline of Wednesday, October 25 if you are interested in participating.  Questions?  Contact Janie Lynch, Director of Religious Education, by calling 248-541-5133 or email jynch@shrinechurch.com.
